Dhal

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dhal
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 dried chillies
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1 or 2 carrots Optional Add-ins Potatoes

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 onion
  • 4 jalapeno peppers
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1/4 head cauliflower

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker, boil dhal and carrots with ginger, garlic, dried chillies, curry leaves, ground turmeric and salt, about 20-30 minutes.
  2. In a pot, heat butter and temper mustard seeds. When they crackle, add cumin seeds and onions. Fry until onions are slightly brown, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add jalapeno peppers and tomatoes. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add cooked dhal to the pot, and cook for 5 minutes.
